ONGCian Amit Kumar wins Gold Medal at Commonwealth Games 2014

ONGCian Amit Kumar put up a stunning show and lived up to the expectations of being the top seed by winning Gold Medal in Commonwealth Games 2014 at Scotland in the men's freestyle 57kg category Wrestling event.

Amit defeated Ebikweminomo Welson of Nigeria at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) on day six (July 29, 2014) of Glasgow Games. He overcame his opponent with a margin of 3-1 on classification points.

All glory– Amit Kumar after winning the Gold for India

Amit won two of his bouts en-route to the finals on the basis of Great Superiority.

The scoreline was 10-0 in both quarterfinals and semifinals rounds. While in the semis, he outplayed Azhar Hussain of Pakistan, Amit blanked Bokang Masunyane of South Africa in the quarters.

He had defeated Jean Guyliane Bandoo of Mauritius 5-0 in the round of 16 earlier.

Amit was part of the Indian contingent at London Olympics 2012 and missed his medal winning chance by a whisker as a result of contentious umpiring. He performed exceptionally well in the recently concluded World Championship and Asian Championship 2013 by winning Silver and Gold medals respectively.

On behalf of all ONGCians, Corporate Sports Division congratulates Amit for bringing glory to ONGC and the Nation.
