Grandmaster Deep Sengupta of ONGC wins Commonwealth Chess Championship


Chess Grandmaster Deep Sengupta of ONGC has won the Commonwealth Chess Championship held at Glasgow, Scotland from June 30 to July 8, 2014. He defeated fellow Grandmaster Sahaj Grover in the final round to clinch his maiden Commonwealth Chess Title with 7.5 points from 9 games.

15 year old wonder-kid Aravindh Chidambaram, under Sports Scholarship with ONGC, contributed to Deep's title triumph by toppling overnight leader and defending Champion Abhijeet Gupta in the final round game, clinching Silver Medal in the process. Indians dominated the event winning 9 out of the top 10 placings and in all the age group categories as well.
